Greg Boyle did his thing last night, and we did ours. \u00a0G, speaking without notes, held a crowd of 400 spellbound as he moved from outrageously funny stories about his beloved Homies to quiet moments of homily: you are exactly what God had \u00a0in mind when he made you. \u00a0An extraordinary man with an extraordinary mission.<\/p>\n<p>Our thing was to support Boyle&#8217;s Homeboy industries. \u00a0When Jacek Kugler, Joe Hough and I thought to initiate this event, we thought that perhaps 150 people would come out on a weeknight. \u00a0Nearly three times that number appeared at the Claremont United Church of Christ, and they contributed more than $11,000. \u00a0<strong>Update: contributions have now reached $25,000.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some folks who wanted to attend but could not have asked me about how they could make a contribution. \u00a0Just contact Homeboy Industries <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homeboy-industries.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>at their web site.<\/strong><\/a> Or if you wish, contact me, via the CONTACT tab at the top of this page, and I will send you a flyer about Homeboy and its work along with a donation envelope.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fr.
